OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
Mexican athletes first competed at the Paris 1900 Olympic Games when three polo players played in a mixed North American team. Mexico did not compete again at the Olympic Games until 1924 but it has competed since without fail. Mexico sent five bobsleigh competitors to the Amsterdam 1928 Olympic Winter Games and in 1932 they entered another bobsleigh team but it did not compete.

In Mexico's nine Olympic Winter Games appearances, it has been represented by 36 athletes (30 men, six women). Its athletes have competed in six disciplines: Alpine skiing, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, figure skating, freestyle skiing and skeleton, with the bulk of its competitors in Alpine skiing (18) and bobsleigh (11).

Mexico has never won a medal at the Olympic Winter Games, with the best finish being its inaugural appearance in the 1928 5-man bobsleigh competition, in which the country finished 11th.

One Mexican athlete has competed six times at the Olympic Winter Games. Alpine skier Hubertus von Fuerstenberg-von Hohenlohe competed at four consecutive Olympic Winter Games between 1984 and 1994. After a 16-year break, he returned to the Olympic Winter Games at Vancouver 2010 and made his sixth appearance at Sochi 2014. He learned skiing in the Sierra Nevadas in the United States, and in Austria. He carried the Mexican flag at the Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremonies in 1994, 2010 and 2014.

At PyeongChang 2018, the Mexican flag was carried at the Opening Ceremony by Alpine skier Sarah Schleper. A native of Vail, Colorado, Schleper competed at five Olympic Games, with the first four for the United States (1998-10) before marrying a Mexican citizen, which allowed her to compete for Mexico in 2018.

Mexico has won 72 Olympic medals (13 golds), all at the Olympic Games. Its most successful competitor has been equestrian rider Humberto Mariles, who won two golds and a bronze at the London 1948 Olympic Games, although diver Joaquin Capilla won four medals, with one gold.
