General Interest

@ PYEONGCHANG 2018
Liechtenstein competed with a team of three athletes (two men, one woman), in two disciplines: Alpine skiing and cross-country skiing. Liechtenstein won one medal at PyeongChang. Competing in her third Olympic Winter Games, Alpine skier Tina Weirather won bronze in women's super-G. Weirather was from Liechtenstein Alpine skiing royalty, as her parents were Harti Weirather and Hanni Wenzel. Wenzel won four medals in Alpine skiing from 1976-80, with two gold while Weirather competed at the Lake Placid 1980 Olympic Winter Games, finishing ninth in downhill.

OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
Liechtenstein made its first Olympic appearances at the Games of 1936, both Winter and Summer. Since that time, it has only failed to appear at the Oslo 1952 Olympic Winter Games, the Melbourne 1956 and the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games.

Liechtenstein is the only country to have won medals at the Olympic Winter Games (10 with two golds) but not at the summer Olympic Games. All of its medals have been won by the country's Alpine skiers, notably from two families, the Frommelts and the Wenzels, who together have won eight of Liechtenstein's Olympic medals, led by Hanni Wenzel, with four medals and two gold medals.
