OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
India has competed at all the Olympic Games since 1920 and every Olympic Winter Games since Nagano 1998, after appearances in 1964, 1968, 1988 and 1992. They have had 15 Winter Olympians (13 men, two women) competing in Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and luge.

Their most prominent Winter Olympian has been by luger Shiva Keshavan who finished 25th in 2006, the best finish by an Indian Winter Olympian. Keshavan represented India at six editions of the Olympic Winter Games (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2018). He competed as an Independent Olympic Participant at his fifth Games at Sochi 2014, as India was suspended by the IOC at the time he competed. The suspension was later lifted while the Olympic Winter Games were still in progress, allowing the other two members of the team - Alpine skier Himanshu Thakur and cross country skier Nadeem Iqbal - to compete for India.

Twelve of India's 35 medals in the Olympic Games have been won by its hockey team, with eight of its 10 gold medals coming in the sport. In 1928, India entered its first hockey team and won the gold medal, which was the first of six consecutive gold medals won. The other golds were by air rifle shooter Abhinav Bindra (Beijing 2008) and by javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra (Tokyo 2020).

All the top medal winners for India have been their men hockey players. While nine hockey Olympians have won three medals, only Udham Singh and Leslie Claudius have won four. Seven Indian hockey Olympians have won three gold medals - Udham Singh, Leslie Claudius, Dhyan Chand, Balbir Singh, Sr., Ranganandhan Francis, Randhir Singh Gentle, and Richard Allen.
