OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
The NOC was formed in November 1950 and recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in May 1951, first competing at the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games. On 1 July 1997, the People's Republic of China regained sovereignty over Hong Kong, but it was agreed that the NOC would retain its recognition by the IOC as Hong Kong, China.

The NOC first competed at the Olympic Winter Games at Salt Lake City 2002, represented by two female short track speed skaters, Christy Ren and Cordia Tsoi. The NOC also competed in short track speed skating between 2006 and 2014. At PyeongChang 2018, Arabella Ng competed in Alpine skiing. Short track skater Barton Lui has been its only male competitor at the Olympic Winter Games.

Short track skater Han Yue Shuang is its only athlete to appear at two Olympic Winter Games (2006, 2010), with her 18th place in the 1000m at Torino 2006 the best finish for the NOC.

Prior to 1996, none of its athletes had ever finished in the top 10. At the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, Lee Lai Shan won the NOC's first Olympic medal, a gold in boardsailing, and through Tokyo 2020, the NOC has won nine Olympic medals (two golds) with the other title coming in 2020 in men's individual foil fencing, won by Cheung Ka Long.
