OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
Estonia first competed at the Olympic Winter Games from 1928 to 1936. After the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, Estonia returned as an NOC in 1992 in both Albertville and Barcelona and has competed at every Olympic Games and Olympic Winter Games since.
In its 10 Olympic Winter Games appearance, Estonia has won seven medals (four gold), all in cross-country skiing. Andrus Veerpalu and Kristina Smigun-Vahi have each won three Olympic medals (two gold and one silver). The other Estonian Olympic Winter medal was won by Jaak Mae at Salt Lake City 2002.
The nation has won 43 Olympic medals, including 21 between 1920 and 1936. Fourteen of these were gold medals, including an emotional victory for Erika Salumae in women's match sprint cycling in 1992. In total, 36 medals were won at the Olympic Games.
Estonia has never hosted an Olympic Games, but at Moscow 1980 all the sailing events were held in the Gulf of Finland off Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.
