OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
Armenia gained IOC recognition in 1993 and made its Olympic debut at the Lillehammer 1994 Olympic Winter Games. The nation was represented at those Games by bobsledders Kenneth Topalian and Joseph Almasian, who finished 36th in the 2-man.
Since then, it has competed in five disciplines at the Olympic Winter Games - Alpine skiing, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, figure skating, and freestyle skiing and has been represented by 30 Olympians (20 men, 10 women).
It has yet to win an Olympic Winter Games medal, with its best finish being 19th, which has happened twice, both at Nagano 1998, in pairs figure skating (Maria Krasiltseva and Aleksandr Chestnikh), and men's moguls (Armen Rafayelyan).
Armenia has won 18 Olympic Games medals, two gold, eight silver, and eight bronze, with both gold medals coming in wrestling after Armen Nazaryan won the Greco-Roman flyweight at Atlanta 1996 and Artur Aleksanyan in the Greco-Roman heavyweight at Rio 2016. With his gold medal in 2016, Aleksanyan became the first athlete representing Armenia to win two medals after claiming bronze in the same division at London 2012.
