OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
The National Olympic Committee of American Samoa was formed on 30 May 1985 and recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 12 May 1987 at the IOC Session in Istanbul.
American Samoa has competed once at the Olympic Winter Games at Lillehammer 1994, with the 2-man bobsleigh team of Brad Kiltz and Faauuga Muagututia finishing 39th.
Yet to win an Olympic medal but has sent a delegation to every edition of the Olympic Games since making its debut in 1988 in Seoul. The first athlete to compete at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games was weightlifter Lopesi Faagu (age 48 years and 169 days). He remains the oldest competitor to have represented American Samoa at the Olympic Games.
In 1992, Maselino Masoe won two matches in light-middleweight boxing to finish equal fifth in his class, the best finish to date from the small island nation.
Lisa Misipeka is American Samoa's most experienced Olympian, having competed at three consecutive editions of the Olympic Games between 1996 and 2004. She finished 25th in the women's shot put at Atlanta 1996, then switched disciplines to compete in hammer throw (2000, 2004).
