He was named Athlete of the Year by the Athletic Federation of Slovenia in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He sustained an injury on his left leg in July 2020.

In 2019 he and his 4x400m relay partners and their coach climbed to Mount Everest base camp at 5,545m. It was a team-building exercise for the 2020 OG, and raised money for the SOS Children's Villages charity.
