CALL FOR SUPPORT
He says the Moldovan government needs to do more to support athletes. In 2021 his funding was reduced by more than half due to his 10th-place finish at the previous year's European championships, and his coach had approached the Japanese and Korean federations about the possibility of training with their athletes. "How can I prepare for tournaments as an athlete? Nutrition, recovery and a doctor are necessary, but we have nothing. I don't just want to participate, I want to fight until the very last second. It is important for the team to be well prepared to make an effort. It's like war out there. Every athlete who represents the country must be supported.
