General Interest

General
NATIONALITY SWITCH
He grew up in the Russian Federation and represented the country at international level. In 2017 he chose to begin competing for Slovakia, and was granted Slovakian citizenship in 2019. "When I was 24, the former Olympian and later coach Rodion Kertanty told me about the possibility of representing Slovakia. I thought about it, I talked it over with my father and we decided that it was a good option for me. I got permanent residence and I could start competing for Slovakia. It was not easy in the beginning, because when a new country gives you a chance, you have to prove something right away. I went to the 2017 European Championships and lost both of my matches there." (sportnet.sme.sk, 14 May 2021)

WRESTLING HERITAGE
He is a native of the North Ossetia-Alania region of the Russian Federation, which has produced a number of international wrestlers. "We are not different people, we just arrange everything around wrestling. In Ossetia, it is the number one sport. It's nothing special when you come to the hall and there are 60 or 70 people on two mats, everyone wants to be better than you. So you have to take your place. You train not only your hands, but also your character and winning mentality. Not only do I know all the wrestlers from Ossetia, but we are friends." (sportnet.sme.sk, 14 May 2021)
