One of his neighbours encouraged him to enrol at a martial arts school where he could practise wrestling, savate boxing, and capoeira. "Once you were in, you had to do all three. I learnt fast and after some time I went to a tournament. Later I ended up becoming national champion, and little by little I started enjoying the sport." He has competed in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling at international level. "In 2014, during a junior competition in Medellin [Colombia], I had to compete in Greco-Roman because my weight was 60kg and the freestyle categories in that tournament were for 55kg and 65kg. I practised Greco-Roman style for two years and then I focused on freestyle. I trained in both because my coach advised me to. My time practising Greco-Roman wrestling helped me improve my freestyle.
