"At first, I didn't like to wrestle at all. I didn't even know it as a sport as sprinting is all I knew. When I went to the stadium to learn how to run and began preparing for a school competition only the first and second would be picked. I placed second but they dropped me and picked the winner. The wrestling coach [Akuh Purity] saw me crying and said if I wanted to wrestle, he would take me to the same competition. I decided to follow him because I desperately wanted to travel. Luckily, I won a gold medal in the competition. I ended up loving wrestling passionately." (olympicchannel.com, 21 May 2020; naijaloaded.com.ng, 26 Jan 2020; WrestlingTV YouTube channel, 13 Sep 2019)

EARLY DAYS
As a girl she kept her wrestling career a secret from her parents, and even stayed away from home for four days to represent her secondary school at the Okada Games in Nigeria without telling them. "What attracted me to the sport was the opportunity to travel, which was one of my dreams as a young girl. Meanwhile at that time, my parents were looking for me and they reported that I was missing at the police station. I later called to tell them I was fine but my angry parents told me they had disowned me and warned me not to come back home. My coach [Akuh Purity] and some other people then followed me to beg my parents to accept me back. My coach also promised my parents that he would take good care of me, and that's how my wrestling career began. This sport has given me a name and has taken me out of poverty. When I began to live comfortably I bought a car for my dad, and I opened a shop for my mum."
