Born in Armenia, he moved to Brazil in 2012 after he became friends with the Brazilian delegation that competed at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. He first competed for Brazil in 2014 under a sports passport; a document accepted by United World Wrestling [UWW] but not by the International Olympic Committee [IOC]. He finally gained Brazilian citizenship in June 2016 which paved the way for him to be selected for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "Being able to represent Brazil was a war that I won.
