"My father practised this sport in his old homeland of Russia. He worked there as a trainer and later also here in Germany. I was born into this sport. When I was two years old, my family moved from the city of Barnaul in the Altai region [in the Russian Federation] to Germany. The wrestling club was the first point of contact where we made contacts back then. I grew up on the wrestling mat. I took part in my first tournament when I was five years old." CAREER CHANGE
After finishing school he started an apprenticeship at the Sparkasse savings bank, where he was later taken on as a permanent employee. In 2016 he left the Sparkasse to join the Bundeswehr [Germany Army] so that he could focus on wrestling. "You become very disciplined and learn a lot about time management [at a bank]. It was a very educational time. But at some point you still ask yourself the question: What would I like to focus on? You set priorities anew, you have to make important decisions in life.
