Her father Takahito competed in wrestling at university level, and was twice champion in the Greco-Roman discipline at the All Japan student championships. Her mother Hatsue represented Japan in the sport at the 1989 World Championships in Martigny, Switzerland, where she finished seventh. Her younger sister Yukako is also an international wrestler. She was her training partner at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and won bronze in the 62kg category at the 2019 World Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
