CLUB FOUNDER
Along with his brother Manuel, he founded the CD HalterEjido weightlifting club in Almeria, Spain, having previously trained in Melilla, a Spanish city on the north African coast. "For several years, we had to go to Melilla to train because we didn't have the right facilities in our town. We are very grateful for all that Melilla gave us, but we were looking forward to representing our hometown. When we proposed creating a club in our town, we did not think twice about it. It is not just about having a decent gym when we are here. Our project is to find and help young talents, and for that you need adequate facilities. NEW WEIGHT CLASS
He says the 73kg category, introduced by the International Weightlifting Federation [IWF] in 2018, suits him perfectly. "It was no effort for me to get adapted. I was really happy when I learned this weight would be the new class. It is perfect for me - one kilogram more would be too much, one kilogram less would be too little. It is as if I had chosen it." BROTHER
He believes competing with his brother Manuel has been positive for his career. "It is very special to share moments with my brother. We have grown in the sport together, we help each other, we push forward when the other has a bad moment and it is double joy when one of us has a good result.
