In June 2020 he revealed that he could have competed for a country other than Georgia. "I had offers to get citizenship of another country. At first, when I received such an offer, it went in one ear and out the other because no matter what was offered, it was unacceptable to me. MEDAL UPGRADE
Having initially won silver in the +105kg category at the 2015 World Championships in Houston, TX, United States of America, he was later upgraded to gold after Russian weightlifter Aleksey Lovchev tested positive for a banned substance and was stripped of his medal. (heretifm.com, 25 Dec 2015)

SANCTION
