He competed in the 94kg and 105kg classes earlier in his career. After the International Weightlifting Federation [IWF] introduced new weight categories in 2018, he first switched to the non-Olympic 102kg class before moving up to 109kg in 2019. "I preferred participating in the 102kg category because I had a lower weight and my weight did not reach 109kg at all. After the changes in weights, I consulted with the president of the federation and the staff, and we all came to the conclusion that I would be more successful in the 102kg category.
