General Interest

General
Canada competed at the first two editions of the women's water polo tournament at the Olympic Games, finishing fifth in 2000 and seventh in 2004. Canada secured their place in Tokyo by claiming silver at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, where they lost the final to the United States of America.

Canada have won four medals at the world championships, claiming silver in 1991 and 2009, and bronze in 2001 and 2005. At the 2019 World Championships, Canada were eliminated after losing to the Dutch team in the play-off round. Victories over the People's Republic of China and Kazakhstan in the classification matches helped secure a ninth-place finish.

At the World League Super Final in June 2021, the Canadian team defeated Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals, before losing to Hungary 14-10 in the semifinals. The Russian team then also beat the Canadians 10-8 in the third place match to see Canada rank fourth. Their best World League performance in recent years came in 2017, when they were runners-up behind the US team.
