General Interest

General
Greece booked their ticket for Tokyo 2020 through the Olympic Qualification Tournament played in February 2021. The Greek team have made 15 Olympic appearances, and competed at each of the past 10 editions of the Games. They are still searching for their first medal, with their best performance coming at Athens 2004 when they reached the semifinals only to lose to Serbia and Montenegro. In the bronze medal match they were beaten 6-5 by the Russian Federation. Their sixth-place finish at Rio 2016 was their best result since 2004.

Despite their ongoing medal quest at the Olympic Games, they have had a number of top-three finishes at the world championships, the World Cup, and in World League Super Finals. All of the podium finishes have been either second or third and all have come since 1997. They won bronze at the world championships in 2005 and 2015, finished as runners-up at the 1997 World Cup, and secured third-place finishes in the World League Super Finals in 2004, 2006, and 2016.

Greece's best result at the European championship is a fourth-place finish, which they recorded in both 1999 and 2016. They were knocked out by Croatia in the quarterfinals at the 2020 edition of the tournament in Budapest.
