General
Turkey secured qualification for Tokyo by winning the 2020 European Olympic Qualification Tournament in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

The Turkish team are making their second Olympic appearance at the 2020 Games, having debuted at London 2012. Although they did not reach the knockout stages at the 2012 Games, they did claim victories over Serbia and the Republic of Korea in their group matches.

Turkey have competed at four consecutive editions of the world championship since making their debut in the tournament in 2006. Their best result is a sixth-place finish in 2010, while at the most recent tournament in 2018 they were ranked 10th.

At continental level, the team secured podium finishes at the European championship in 2017 and 2019. They lost to Serbia at the semifinal stage in 2017 but recovered to beat Azerbaijan in the bronze medal match, and then made it all the way to the final in 2019 where they were defeated once again by the Serbians.

The Turkish team have made it to the Final Round of both editions of the Nations League to date. They were runners-up in 2018 but missed out on the podium in 2019 after placing fourth.
