He was an assistant coach to the Russian women's team in 2019, and has served as an assistant coach for the Russian men's team over several stints since 1999. He has also worked as an assistant coach for club sides Dynamo Moscow, Zenit Kazan, Ural Ufa, Trentino, Padova, and Zenit St. Petersburg, and as head coach of Novy Urengoy.

SUSPENSION
He was suspended for three matches by the International Volleyball Federation [FIVB] after making a 'slant-eyed' gesture during his celebration of the Russian team's win over Republic of Korea that secured qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Volleyball Federation of Russia sent an official apology to the Korea Volleyball Federation [KOVO] after the latter made a formal complaint to FIVB following the incident.
