"Our village is a few kilometres away from Urmia [Islamic Republic of Iran]. We had two volleyball dirt courts, we would stick poles in the ground and place nets on them. Instead of drawing lines, we would mark the area and dimensions of the court with a rope. It is hard for me to believe now, but my family's financial situation did not allow me to go to the volleyball hall to register and have at least one coach. I did not have the money to register for a volleyball class. Until age 16, I played in the same dirt fields of the village. Most of the villagers were farmers, but in the afternoons our passion was to water the ground and play volleyball as long as we could. My father did that, too.
