"My triathlon journey started many years ago in 2006, but that was only one race. I really got into the sport when the triathlon federation in Norway invited me and many other cyclists, swimmers and runners to an open weekend camp for youngsters in Norway in 2010. I came from a cycling background, but was also a keen runner. I couldn't decide between cycling and running. So instead of choosing one of the sports, I realised triathlon was something for me." At the time he was not a strong swimmer, but national team coach Arild Tveiten noticed his potential and encouraged him to join a swimming club. LUCKY HAT
While competing at the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Nice, France, he wore a hat he had found on the side of the road in Japan. The hat was from the Puyan Shunze Temple in Chinese Taipei. This caught the attention of fans in Chinese Taipei and he had a sudden rise in popularity. "I think I went from 7000 [followers on Instagram] to almost 30,000.and most of the followers were from Taiwan because of this random hat I was wearing. So that's also a life-changing story. It went viral in Taiwan and suddenly I was like a super star over there. And I have like this temple over there were people come and don't worship me, they worship the hat. It's not about me, it's more about the story around the hat." In November 2019 he made a trip to the region which included a visit to the temple where he received a new hat after losing the one he had previously worn.
