He first heard about triathlon while at swimming practice in 2006, when his new swim coach, former champion Eivind Kartveit, spoke about the sport. "To be a professional triathlete feels quite natural for me. This is what I dreamed about when I was 16, 17 years of age and just started with triathlon." SWIM STRATEGY
He says he sometimes finds it hard to stick to his race plan in the swim leg. "My race strategy for the swim is always to try to get as good a start as possible. I tend to be one of the slowest ones. I try to play a little bit safe in the beginning and just make it inside the top 15 and top 10, but it's just so hard to hold back when I like racing so much." (Super League Triathlon YouTube channel, 21 May 2021; redbull.com, 2020)

SUB-SEVEN CHALLENGE
In January 2021 he spoke about how he would like to break the seven-hour mark for the iron-distance triathlon as part of a wider challenge. The challenge, inspired by Kenyan distance runner Eliud Kipchoge's sub-two-hour marathon, was also taken up by British triathlete Alistair Brownlee and female triathletes Nicola Spirig from Switzerland and Lucy Charles-Barclay from Great Britain [the female triathletes were interested in breaking eight hours]. "Many say it's impossible, but wouldn't it be great if we were able to defy the naysayers? Imagine the impact that could have, not just at the elite end of the sport but also to encourage everyone, especially young people to be more active."
