She originally wanted to compete at the Olympic Games in swimming, until her swimming coach Luis Miguel Chavez persuaded her to change to triathlon, as he believed she would have a better chance of fulfilling her ambitions in a multi-discipline sport. She first tried a duathlon event, which she won, and then qualified for the junior world championships in triathlon in Budapest, Hungary in 2010. "I hated duathlon and triathlon. I told my coach that I did not want to be in those sports. But, after competing in the Mexican Youth Olympics, she made me buy a bike. In Hungary I found myself in another world, an event with spectacular organisation. That was when I knew triathlon was my life and I would reach the Olympic Games with this sport."
