MISSED BIRTH OF DAUGHTER
In 2020 he missed the birth of his daughter, Mila, in Paraguay as a result of COVID-19 travel restrictions. After the Indian Wells Masters was cancelled he decided to go to Argentina to train, but the Argentinian border with Paraguay was then closed due to the outbreak of the virus. "The only place I could still go was to Bolivia to be with family. So I decided to go there." In the meantime his wife Camila gave birth in Paraguay. After talking with Bolivian and Paraguayan officials he was able to travel to Paraguay, and after two weeks of self-isolation he was able to meet his daughter. "Camila did great. The hardest part of having a new baby had passed, it was like I was arriving at the fifth set of the match. Mila is the highest prize I could have ever won." GIVING BACK
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 he helped healthcare professionals in his hometown of Trinidad, Bolivia, providing them with masks, gloves, thermometers and bio suits. "I had friends and acquaintances who caught the virus. The situation overwhelmed the state and I tried to give them a hand. I helped the medics because they risked their lives for us. When I was younger all the town helped me and I will always be thankful. I remember that once they organised a lottery with a motorcycle as a prize in order to get money to help support my career."
