INJURY COMEBACK
After he recovered from surgery on both hips in 2016, he returned to competition ranked outside the top 600 singles players in the world. In 2020 he said he had found his form again after a tough initial comeback from the surgery, and later that year he broke the top 100 of the world singles ranking for the first time. "Definitely when you first start playing after your injuries, it's definitely in the back of your mind and then you lose some close matches and it's easy to lose confidence and it kind of can spiral. But the past year [speaking in 2020] I won a lot of matches and the year before wasn't as good of a year. So the level was there, but it was more mental on the important times that I kind of had to break through." (atptour.com, 19 Jul 2021, 02 Jun 2021; tennisworldusa.org, 13 Feb 2020)
