General Interest

General
2021 FORM
In 2021 he spoke about how playing on the ATP Challenger Tour helped him regain some form. At the 2021 French Open he progressed past the first round of a Grand Slam for the first time since the Australian Open in early 2020, reaching the third round in Paris, France. He says he has no immediate plans to retire from the sport, although that may change if there is more disruption to the sport due to COVID-19. "Sometimes you have to take a small step back in order to have a lot of good matches in order to gain confidence. As long as I can play in the big tournaments and win matches, I don't really see any reason to stop. But it is also clear that [if] there will be a fourth or fifth corona wave in the fall [2021], that's probably it for me." (eurosport.de, 26 Jun 2021; tennisnet.com, 28 Apr 2021)

TOKYO BERTH
His place at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo was confirmed in June 2021. "Since players like Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem cancelled [for the 2020 Games], I received the message that I would be nominated. I've been getting better and better over the last few weeks [speaking in June 2021]." (eurosport.de, 26 Jun 2021; tennisnet.com, 28 Apr 2021)
