:
He initially tried karate but the class schedule was not convenient for him, and he moved on to swimming. He then discovered he had an allergy to chlorine and took up taekwondo, which he found to be a good fit. "I did not even enjoy my first classes. I was 13 years old, and I went to the gymnasium with my parents. I did a whole month of classes, following my father's suggestion, and I was enjoying it more and more. Back then I was not the kind of person who said, 'I really want to be very good at this, and become world champion'." (ruibraganca.com, 27 Oct 2020; maisfutebol.iol.pt, 01 Aug 2016)
