She took up the sport at age 13 in Sogamoso, Colombia. "It all started when a family friend took my sisters and I to a taekwondo exhibition event and we found it super interesting, then at the end of the event he invited us to get involved with the Panteras de Boyaca club. From age five she practised gymnastics but she did not enjoy it. She then spent four years focusing on playing the violin before she was introduced to taekwondo. "I was very small and not very flexible, I did not have the talent, but I was very disciplined in everything and trained twice as much to reach the level of others.
