He says he believes there are many talented taekwondo athletes in Mali, but that they need more financial support and opportunities to compete internationally. "In Mali, the athletes are well-trained technically and physically. We have great [taekwondo] masters, but we have a funding problem. If Malian taekwondo is financially supported, we will bring many trophies back to Mali. In Mali, we also have a competition problem. We train well at home, but it's not enough if we don't compete internationally. You have to rub shoulders with other athletes to gain experience. We register for the competitions, but at the last minute there is no money to participate. This discourages the athletes a bit." (abamako.com, 14 Mar 2020)
