LOSS OF MOTHER
His mother died in early 2019, which he says made him consider quitting the sport. "I didn't want to continue. I had already won some medals and I told myself I was done. I just wanted to spend more time with my family." He says winning bronze at the 2019 World Championships in Manchester, England, and gold at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, helped him regain his motivation ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
