She began taekwondo in order to lose weight. "I was not really interested in any sport, but I needed to practise one for health reasons. In 2011 I wanted to start table tennis, but due to my school schedule I could only fit in judo and taekwondo. And then I fell in love with taekwondo." She was later inspired by watching Brazilian taekwondoka Natalia Falavigna competing at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. "In 2012 I had just begun training and I remember waking up early in order to watch her competing in London. I can say that my big dream started then, to go to the Olympics and be Olympic champion."
