He took up taekwondo at age five. "I think I was able to improve faster than other kids perhaps because I took up taekwondo when I was very young, at the age of five. That might have helped me win my first competition when I was a third grader, beating all other kids older than me. From then on, people encouraged me to get into taekwondo seriously, and I also felt happy to win the competition beating older and more experienced kids at that young age."
