MOTIVATION
For many years she has been competing against fellow Mexican taekwondoka and three-time Olympic medal winner Maria Espinoza. The pair often face off to determine who will represent Mexico in major international competitions. In 2016 she lost out to Espinoza in her bid to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, with Espinoza going on to claim a silver in Brazil. Her failure to gain selection for the 2016 Olympic Games led her to consider retiring from the sport. In 2019 she defeated Espinoza on her way to competing at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, where she claimed gold. "I thought about quitting taekwondo because I didn't enjoy it anymore. I didn't want to try a kick anymore because I had already set goals and a life that didn't happen. In a certain moment I thought, 'Bris, let's see what else you can do and offer to the world,' but I also thought that I owed myself to get to the Olympic Games and give my best in order to get there."
