General Interest

General
Poland have competed at every Olympic Games since the team event was introduced in 2008, and ensured they would make a fourth appearance when they secured their spot in Tokyo at the 2020 World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Gondomar, Portugal, along with eight other teams.

The Polish team bowed out of the 2016 Games in Rio with a 3-0 loss to eventual bronze medallists Japan in the first round. They also failed to progress beyond the opening round at London 2012 after defeat by Singapore, while a group stage victory over Germany at the 2008 Games was not enough to see them progress to the knockout rounds.

Poland are yet to make a significant impact on the world stage, having reached the world championship quarterfinals for the first time in 2012, which remains their best performance at the tournament. At the 2018 World Championships in Halmstad, Sweden, they finished ranked equal 14th.

At continental level Poland have been regular medal contenders this century. In 2019 they reached the semifinals at both the European championships and the European Games, losing to Romania and Germany, respectively. Their standout continental result is their European championship runners-up finish in 2009 behind the Netherlands.
