General Interest

General
Brazil qualified for their third Olympic Games by winning the 2019 Latin American Qualification Tournament in Lima, Peru.

Brazil are looking for their first win on the Olympic stage in Tokyo, having previously competed at the Games in 2012 and 2016. On home soil in Rio in 2016 they faced a formidable assignment in the first round against the People's Republic of China, who eliminated the Brazilians 3-0 and went on to win gold. Four years earlier in London, Brazil also failed to progress beyond the opening round as they were knocked out 3-0 by the Republic of Korea.

At the world championships Brazil have struggled to make an impact. At the 2018 World Championships they finished ranked equal 20th, which was their highest finish at the tournament in 13 appearances since 1987.

Brazil have had most of their success in continental competition. In 2019 they won silver at both the Pan American Games and the Pan American Championships, behind Puerto Rico and the United States of America, respectively. It was their second consecutive silver at the Pan American Games, while they won gold at the 2017 and 2018 Pan American Championships over the US team.
