General Interest

General
TRAINING THROUGH WAR
The Syrian civil war has periodically disrupted her table tennis training programme. One consequence has been the frequent loss of electricity due to power outages, meaning there have been occasions when she was only able to practise during daytime hours. "During the conflict, we had a lot of difficulties, and we didn't train much, or travel between cities, so I had to face hardships. Even the paddles and balls were difficult to obtain." (ittf.com, 23 Mar 2021; news.cgtn.com, 14 Sep 2020)

CHINESE INVITATION
In 2020, the Chinese Olympic Committee invited her to train with the country's leading players after the travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic were lifted. "I feel so excited and I can't wait to go to China. Hopefully my world ranking will improve after the training." (news.cgtn.com, 14 Sep 2020)

BALANCING SPORT AND EDUCATION
Her father has arranged private teachers for her when she has been unable to attend classes due to her table tennis commitments. "At my age the pressure at school is still relatively little but, nevertheless, I am committed to a daily programme of studying and training, so that one does not overwhelm the other. My father provides teachers for me in the subjects and lessons that I miss during travel and various tournaments." (aljazeera.net, 18 Mar 2020)
