"As my parents used to be competitive table tennis players, they would always bring me along to their competitions, and that was how I fell in love with the sport. They also taught me a lot of the sport, guiding me through my table tennis journey." (Team Media Guide, 28 Jul 2014)

General
SPORT, STUDY AND NATIONAL SERVICE
He began studying sport and leisure management at Republic Polytechnic in Woodlands, Singapore, in 2013, but has delayed his course multiple times. He deferred his studies in 2015 and 2017 to train for the Southeast Asian Games, and completed his national service from 2017 to 2019, which also ruled him out of contention for the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia. "My classmates now are a lot younger than me. Of course there are times when I feel exhausted, but I have never thought about quitting. This is a path I chose because of my love for table tennis. I will go all out to win matches and be an inspiration to others, just like how those before me have inspired me." (uk.news.yahoo.com, 24 Jun 2021; tabletennissbsbb.blogspot.com, 01 Mar 2018)

TREASURED POSSESSION
In 2004 he was given a signed bat by Chinese table tennis player Xu Yinsheng, who had previously coached his mother on the Chinese national team. He hangs the bat, which reads, "Work hard in your table tennis and play in the Olympics some day", in his home. "The bat has always been placed in a prominent place in my living room. From time to time, I will walk past and it reminds me of why I started my journey and help motivate me to achieve my goal." (tnp.sg, 24 Jun 2021)
