Milestones

At age 15 years and 300 days she became the youngest table tennis player to win a medal at the Olympic Games, following her bronze medal in the team event at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. (ONS, 18 Aug 2016; SportsDeskOnline, 30 Dec 2019)

Alongside her partner Miu Hirano, she was part of the youngest women's doubles team to win a World Tour title. The pair won gold in doubles at the 2014 German Open in Magdeburg, Germany, at a combined age of 27 years and 145 days. The pair also became the youngest doubles team to win a World Tour Grand Finals title, following their victory at the 2014 edition in Bangkok, Thailand, at a combined age of 28 years and 298 days.
