His cousins Adriana and Melanie Diaz have both represented Puerto Rico in table tennis. Adriana competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, while both sisters won gold medals in women's doubles and women's team events at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. His father Eladio also represented Puerto Rico in table tennis and has served as Brian's coach.
