New Zealand have competed in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay at four editions of the Olympic Games, but have never made the final. Their most recent appearance was in London in 2012, where they finished ranked 11th after the heats. Prior to London, the team was disqualified from their heat for an illegal changeover in 2008 in Beijing.

New Zealand have twice made the final of the world championships, in 2005 and 2011, finishing eighth on both occasions. At the 2019 event, they finished with the 10th fastest time of the heats.
