The Republic of Korea are making their second Olympic appearance in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay in Tokyo, having first contested the event at the inaugural edition in 1996 in Atlanta where they finished ranked 18th out of 21 teams after the heats.

At the world championships, the Korean team finished ranked 13th in 2013 and 12th at the most recent edition on home soil in 2019 in Gwangju.

At continental level, the Republic of Korea has won three Asian Games bronze medals, and finished fourth at the two most recent Games in 2014 and 2018.
