Hong Kong, China will make their Olympic debut in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay in Tokyo.

They were the 11th-fastest team in the heats at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. Although their time was not enough to qualify them for the final, it was their highest placing at the world championships in four appearances.

At continental level, Hong Kong, China claimed a second consecutive Asian Games bronze medal in 2018 in Indonesia.
