Switzerland are competing in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the Olympic Games for the second time. Their only previous appearance in the event came at the 1960 Games in Rome, where they finished ranked 15th in the heats.

The Swiss team recorded the 12th-best time in the heats at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju. It was a new Swiss national record in the event, and the closest they have come to making the final in four attempts since first competing at the world championships in 2003.

Switzerland qualified for the final twice in five European championship appearances from 2004 to 2021. They placed eighth in 2012 and were disqualified in 2021.
