General Interest

General
The Chinese men's 4x200m freestyle relay team have only appeared at the Olympic Games or world championships in the 21st century, but in that time they have managed to win medals at both events. They first appeared at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and then as host nation in 2008, finishing with a final ranking of 10th on both occasions. After qualifying for their first final at the 2012 Games in London, they came away with a bronze medal, more than six seconds behind the victorious US team and 0.29s ahead of fourth-placed Germany. The Chinese team did not compete at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

At the world championships, the People's Republic of China claimed back-to-back bronze medals in both 2011 and 2013. They did not progress past the heats at the tournament in 2015 or 2017, but did manage to make the final at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju where they finished sixth. Their time in Gwangju was the exact same time that won them a bronze medal at the 2013 edition, and remains the fastest the Chinese team have swum at an Olympic, world championship or Asian Games tournament.

They have accumulated 10 Asian Games medals since 1974, claiming nine silver and one gold.
