BREAK AND COMEBACK
She struggled to find motivation for swimming after suffering a neck injury in a car accident in 2017. In June 2018 she announced her retirement from competitive swimming. In 2020 she returned to the pool on the suggestion of a friend. "In May 2020, a good friend suggested we go down to the pool and do some training after not being able to exercise much during [the COVID-19] lockdown. One thing led to another and now I'm back training and competing full-time and loving it. I came to realise that the [neck] injury wasn't the reason I ended up having the time off. I needed the mental break from the sport as well. It was a wake-up call for me that I wasn't as devastated as I would have been two years earlier. I knew I needed time away to mentally refresh and reconsider what my goals were. I've still got age on my side. I'm feeling my age in a good way, it's quite nice to have a few more years under my belt and to have had that time away from the sport."
