In October 2015 his family decided he and his older brother would flee the Syrian Arab Republic as his brother had reached an age at which he would be forced to join compulsory military service. They travelled through several countries, including Turkey, Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia and Austria, initially living in the Netherlands before moving on to settle in Germany in 2016.
