He took a break from competitive swimming after competing at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, ON, Canada. He returned to the sport in early 2019 with a view to competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "I decided in early 2019 to train for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and that preparation takes at least a year.
